Youth Leadership Council

The purpose of the Youth Leadership Council (also called, the “YLC”) of Kinston Teens is to develop and implement projects and activities that engage, support and empower the membership of the organization. They are the officers of the Kinston Teens membership serve as role models for our members and all youth of our community.

President – Dyasia Gooding
Dyasia Gooding is a ninth grader at Kinston High School, and an active member of Kinston Teens. During the summer of 2016, Dyasia served as an Intern & Program Assistant for the organization where she helped develop the Adopt-A-Vacant Lot Program. As President, Dyasia serves as the leader of the organization’s membership and delegates project responsibilities to Youth Leadership Council officers.

Vice President – Sadie Horton
Sadie Horton is a sophomore from North Lenoir High School, and an active member of Kinston Teens. She actively participates in the drama departments at Kinston and North Lenoir High Schools, and is a volunteer circulation assistant at the Kinston Public Library. As Vice President, Sadie assists the Youth Leadership Council President in her duties, and leads the membership in the absence of the Youth Leadership Council President.

Secretary – Alysse Harris
Alysse Harris is a senior from North Lenoir High School, where she actively participates in the school’s chorus and cross-country, track and debate teams. She was a participant in the 2016 Delta Sigma Theta Jabberwock Pageant, and is a participant in the 2017 Alpha Kappa Alpha Debutante Cotillion. As Secretary of the Youth Leadership Council, Alysse is responsible for taking minutes at organization meetings and keeping records of member attendance.

 

Treasurer – Sinia McPhail
Sinia McPhail is a senior from Lenoir County Early College High School, where she participates in the College Care Club, Cultures Club and Yearbook Club. She is a facilitator for The Bridge, a faith-based youth outreach program. She was a participant in the 2016 Delta Sigma Theta Jabberwock Pageant, and is a participant in the 2017 Alpha Kappa Alpha Debutante Cotillion. As Treasurer, Sinia leads fundraisers for the organization’s membership and keeps record of expenses of the members and Youth Leadership Council.

Service Director – Aja’ Harvey
Aja’ Harvey is a senior at Kinston High School, where she is an honors student, athlete and participant in the school’s Health Science Honors program. She was a participant in the 2016 Delta Sigma Theta Jabberwock Pageant, and is a participant in the 2017 Alpha Kappa Alpha Debutante Cotillion. As Service Director for the Youth Leadership Council, Aja’ plans service and volunteer projects for the organization and finds volunteer opportunities in the community for our members.

Parliamentarian – Shanasre Collins
Shanasre Collins is a senior at Kinston High School, where she is an honors student, participant in the College & Career Pathways Program, and member of the Drama Club. She is also singer in the Kinston Community Youth Choir. Shanasre serves as Parliamentarian for the Youth Leadership Council, where she is responsible for keeping order in YLC meetings and ensuring that the energy, spirit and momentum of our members is kept high.

Communications – Rashawn Baker
RaShawn Baker is a junior from Kinston High School, where he is an honors student and member of the Journalism & Yearbook Department. RaShawn served as an Intern & Program Director for the Adopt-A-Vacant Lot Program and Adopt-A-Street Program during the summer of 2016. As Communications Director, Rashawn posts updates about the organization’s membership on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram groups and pages; and takes pictures and videos at our meetings and events.
